Application of boron carbide powder
1.Controll nuclear fission
Boron carbide can absorb a large number of neutrons without forming any radioisotopes, so it is an ideal neutron absorber in the nuclear power plant, and the neutron absorber mainly controls the rate of nuclear fission. Boron carbide is mainly made into controllable rod shape in nuclear reactor field, but sometimes it will be made into powder shape because of increasing surface area.
2.Abrasive materials
Since boron carbide has long been used as a coarse sand grinding material. Because of its high melting point, it is not easy to cast into artificial products, but it can be processed into a simple shape through high-temperature melting powder. Used for grinding, grinding, drilling and polishing of hard materials such as hard alloy and gem.
3.Coating coatings
Boron carbide can also be used as a ceramic coating for warships and helicopters, which is light in weight and has the ability to resist penetration of armor piercing projectile through the hot pressing coating to form an integral anti-corrosion layer.
4.Injector
It can be used as a gun nozzle in the ammunition industry. Boron carbide, extremely hard and wear-resistant, non reactive with acid and alkali, high / low temperature resistant, high pressure resistant, density ≥ 2.46g/cm3; microhardness ≥ 3500kgf / mm2, bending strength ≥ 400MPa, melting point 2450 ℃. Because the boron carbide nozzle has the above characteristics of wear resistance and high hardness, the boron carbide nozzle will gradually replace the known carbide / tungsten steel and silicon carbide, silicon nitride, aluminum oxide, zirconia and other materials.
